Suspect held with 2200 foreign fags in Kekirawa

In a coordinated operation by the Sri Lanka Navy and Police Special Task Force (STF), a suspect was arrested with 2,200 foreign cigarettes prepared for sale at a retail shop. The raid took place in Balaluwewa, Kekirawa, on 30th September 2024.

On receipt of information by SLNS Pandukabhaya in the North Central Naval Command, the search operation was conducted in coordination with the Police STF – Dambulla, focusing on the Balaluwewa area. The search of a suspicious retail shop in the area led to the seizure of these foreign cigarettes (2200) and apprehension of the suspect (01).

The suspect held in this operation was identified as a resident of Palagala in Balaluwewa, aged 37. The suspect along with foreign cigarettes was handed over to the Galkiriyagama Police for onward legal action.
