Separate search operations conducted by the Navy in the sea area from Wellamundalam to Kolankanaththa in Kalpitiya and the beach vicinity of Kolankanaththa on 17th and 18th September 2024 led to the seizure of more than 1648kg (wet weight) of smuggled Tendu leaves.

The Navy nabbed 08 persons for engaging in illegal fishing using commercial explosives, during separate operations conducted in the sea areas of Jinnapuram in Trincomalee and Karnatakerni in Mullaitivu on 17th September 2024. The operations also led to the seizure of 02 dinghies and unauthorized fishing equipment.

In a successful search operation, the Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 02 suspects along with a stock of smuggled insecticides off Uchchamunai, Kalpitiya, in the dark hours of 17th September 2024. The operation also resulted in the seizure of a dinghy (01) used to smuggle insecticides.
