Two suspects with smuggled stock of insecticides held in Kalpitiya

In a successful search operation, the Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 02 suspects along with a stock of smuggled insecticides off Uchchamunai, Kalpitiya, in the dark hours of 17th September 2024. The operation also resulted in the seizure of a dinghy (01) used to smuggle insecticides.

The Sri Lanka Navy is vigilantly monitoring and conducting operations to curb illegal activities taking place in its sea and coastal territories.

As an extension of these efforts, the search operation was mounted by SLNS Vijaya in the Northwestern Naval Command in the sea area of Uchchamunai. In the course of the operation, the Navy intercepted a suspicious dinghy and conducted a search. As a result, 02 suspects and the dinghy were taken into custody, along with a haul of insecticides packed in eleven sacks, which were being smuggled into the country.

The cache of insecticides, 02 suspects and the dinghy were handed over to the Customs Preventive Office, Katunayake for onward legal action.
