Navy takes hold of approx. 470kg smuggled dried turmeric
A search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in the beach area of Serakkuliya, Puttalam on 10th September 2024 led to the seizure of approx. 470kg (wet weight) of smuggled dried turmeric.
The Navy remains ever alert and conducts patrols and search operations in the coastal areas of the island to prevent the influx of illegal items into the country.
As an extension of these efforts, personnel from the Rapid Action Boat Squadron in the Northwestern Naval Command recovered 14 sacks of dried turmeric hidden away in shrubs in the beach vicinity of Serakkuliya. The sacks of dried turmeric, believed to have been smuggled via sea routes, weighed approx. 470kg (wet weight).
The stock of dried turmeric has been kept in the custody of the Navy until onward legal action gets under way.
