A suspect with Kerala cannabis held in Kalpitiya

A coordinated search operation conducted by the Navy and Police in Kurighghmpiddi and Sinnakudirippuwa, Kalpitiya on 01st September 2024 led to the apprehension of a suspect with 01kg of Kerala cannabis and a single cab.

A search operation was conducted by SLNS Vijaya of the Northwestern Naval Command in collaboration with the Police Crime Division Puttalam. During the operation, naval and police personnel searched a cab in the Kurighghmpiddi area, discovering approximately 800g of Kerala cannabis prepared for sale. Consequently, the cab, the suspect, and the cannabis were held. A subsequent search of the suspect's house in Sinnakudirippuwa led to the discovery of an additional 200g of Kerala cannabis, which was also confiscated.

The gross street value of Kerala cannabis held in this operation is believed to be four hundred thousand rupees (Rs. 400,000).

The suspect held in this operation is a resident of Sinnakudirippuwa in Kalpitiya, aged 56. The suspect, together with Kerala cannabis and cab, was handed over to the Kalpitiya Police for onward legal proceedings.
