Navy takes hold of 208kg of Tendu leaves washed ashore in Talaimannar
The Navy took hold of about 208kg (wet weight) of Tendu leaves washed ashore, during separate search operations conducted in the beach vicinity of Urumalai and Old Pier in Talaimannar on 11th and 12th August 2024.
The search operations were conducted by SLNS Thammanna in the North Central Naval Command in the beach areas of Urumalai and Old Pier on 11th and 12th August. Upon search of 03 suspicious sacks and 02 parcels washed ashore, the Navy recovered that they had been stuffed with Tendu leaves weighing about 208kg (wet weight).
The consignment of Tendu leaves held in these operations was handed over to the Talaimannar Police for onward legal action.
