Sri Lankan national arrived by Indian fishing boat arrested at Vennappuwa beach

During a coordinated operation by the Navy and Police, a Sri Lankan national who arrived on the shores of Thal Deka (Kadawatha), Vennappuwa by an Indian fishing boat was arrested on 10th August 2024.

Acting on information provided by Naval Intelligence, the Vennappuwa Police arrested the individual attempting to secretly disembark on the shores of Thal Deka. It has been revealed that the suspect was previously arrested in India in 2021 for involvement in drug trafficking.

Meanwhile, the Vennappuwa Police is carrying out further investigations and will proceed with legal action concerning the suspect and the Indian fishing boat.
