Navy recovers Kerala cannabis valued over Rs. 82 million on Iranativu Island
The Navy recovered over 207kg of Kerala cannabis, during a search operation conducted on the Iranativu Island of Kilinochchi on 04th August 2024.
The Sri Lanka Navy remains ever alert and conducts regular operations in the coastal and beach areas around the island, with a view to preventing a wide range of nefarious activities.
In continuation of these efforts, SLNS Buwaneka and Rapid Action Boat Squadron in the North Central Naval Command made this recovery following information provided by the Western Naval Command. Thus, naval personnel took hold of 06 suspicious sacks from shrubs on the Iranativu Island and recovered about 207kg and 020g of Kerala cannabis in 99 parcels stuffed in the sacks.
The gross street value of Kerala cannabis held in this operation is believed to be more than Rs. 82 million.
The stock of Kerala cannabis seized in this operation was handed over to the Mulankavil Police for onward legal action.
