Three (03) suspects with Kerala cannabis valued over Rs. 70 million held in Kilinochchi

A search operation conducted by the Navy in the Iramathivu sea area of Kilinochchi today (03rd August 2024) led to the apprehension of 03 suspects and a dinghy (01) loaded with over 176kg (wet weight) of Kerala cannabis.

The search operation was carried out by SLNS Buwaneka and Rapid Action Boat Squadron personnel in the North Central Naval Command. During this operation, naval personnel intercepted a suspicious dinghy in the Iramathivu sea area and seized about 176kg and 350g (wet weight) of Kerala cannabis stuffed in 86 parcels. The operation also led to the apprehension of 03 suspects aboard.

The gross street value of Kerala cannabis seized in this operation is believed to be over Rs. 70 million.

The suspects held in this operation were identified as residents of Mannar and Valeipadu areas, from 22 to 35 years of age. The suspects, along with Kerala cannabis and the dinghy were handed over to the Jayapuram Police for onward legal action.
