A suspect with 4600 foreign cigarettes held in Ragama

A combined search operation conducted by the Navy and Police STF in the Podiweekumbura area of Ragama on 11th June 2024 led to the arrest of a suspect with about 4600 foreign cigarettes.

The coordinated operation was mounted by SLNS Gemunu in the Western Naval Command with the Police STF of Sri Jayewardenepura in the Podiweekumbura area. During the search, a house in the area was investigated due to suspicion and the search party discovered a stockpile of foreign cigarettes (about 4600) prepared for sale. The search also led to the arrest of a suspect connected to the incident.

The suspect held in this operation was identified as a resident of Ragama, aged 28. The suspect along with illegal foreign cigarettes was handed over to the Ragama Police for onward legal action.
