A suspect with Kerala cannabis valued over Rs. 24 million held in Jaffna

A search operation conducted by the Navy with the Police Special Task Force (STF) led to the arrest of a suspect with over 60kg of Kerala cannabis. The coordinated search was mounted in the beach area of Wallipuram, Jaffna on 08th June 2024.

The search operation was carried out by the Naval Detachment Point Pedro in the Northern Naval Command with the assistance of Nelliadi Police STF. Upon questioning a suspicious individual found waiting on Wallipuram Beach, the search party discovered the stash of Kerala cannabis based on the information he provided. The stock of Kerala cannabis, in 29 parcels stuffed in 02 sacks, weighed about 60kg and 300g. Accordingly, the suspect, along with Kerala cannabis, were taken into custody.

The gross street value of Kerala cannabis seized in this operation is believed to be over Rs. 24 million.

The suspect held in this operation was identified as a resident of Thalayadi in Jaffna, aged 24. The accused, along with Kerala cannabis was handed over to the Point Pedro Police for onward legal action.
