Navy helps flood-hit communities with urgent assistance
In response to the severe weather conditions, the Navy has mobilized its relief teams to assist those affected by floods in the Western, Southern, and Sabaragamuwa provinces. These relief teams are actively engaged in ongoing operations, utilizing small boats to safely rescue flood-affected individuals and cater to their daily necessities.
Accordingly, 29 Navy flood relief teams were deployed today (02nd June) in Thawalama and Nagoda in Galle district, Malimbada, Akuressa, Panathugama and Kamburupitiya in Matara district, Palindanuwara, Bulathsinhala, Ingiriya and Welipenna in Kalutara district, Kaduwela, Meethotamulla, Kolonnawa and Puwakpitiya in Colombo district and Kalawana in Ratnapura district. These relief teams are diligently involved in continuous operations, employing small boats to rescue individuals stranded by the floods and to address their essential daily needs.
Since this morning, Navy relief teams have successfully rescued sixty (60) individuals affected by the flood and provided cooked meals to two hundred and fifty (250) people. Moreover, the Navy has kept ready additional relief teams to support those impacted by the severe weather conditions.
