Navy pressed into action to clear blockage under Dodamgoda Bridge in Galle
The Sri Lanka Navy on 27th May 2024 cleared the blockage under Dodamgoda Bridge which is over Gin River in Baddegama area of Galle, ensuring the free flow of water downstream.
Following heavy rains, tree remains and other debris carried by raging waters of Gin River collect under the bridge, hampering smooth flow of river water. Remaining ever alert to these developments, the Southern Naval Command cleared the blockage beneath the bridge, averting possible flood threat in the area.
Accordingly, a team of Navy divers and members of the Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS) from the Southern Naval Command were mobilized to remove the obstructions beneath the Dodamgoda Bridge. Their swift action ensured that river water could continue to flow downstream without interruption, effectively preventing a potential flood hazard in the area.
