Navy's swift action saves family of three from flood in Mundalama
The Sri Lanka Navy today (20th May 2024) demonstrated remarkable efficiency in a rescue operation that saved a family of three from the clutches of a minor flood in Mundalama area of Puttalam, following inclement weather prevailing in the country.
The Mundalama area in Puttalam experienced minor flooding due to the elevated water levels in a canal that drains effluent from Periyakadawala Lake. As a result, the Command Headquarters of Northwestern Naval Area was informed to rescue a group of people trapped in a house in Mundalama area, due to floods.
In response, a Navy rescue team from SLNS Thambapanni in the Northwestern Naval Command was pressed into action, for the rescue of those individuals. Despite the challenging conditions, the Navy managed to reach the stranded family (mother, son and daughter) and rescue them unharmed.
