Navy nabs 02 suspects with smuggled stock of cashew nuts and ginger in Kankasanthurai
A special search operation conducted by the Navy in Awalsandi beach area in Kankasanthurai on 08th April 2024 led to the apprehension of 02 suspects with over 50kg of cashew nuts and more than 205kg of dried ginger. These items, believed to have been smuggled via sea routes, were found in a three-wheeler (01) which was also taken into the naval custody.
The search was carried out by SLNS Uththara in the Northern Naval Command in Awalsandi beach where 50 parcels of cashew nuts weighing about 50kg and 05g and 05 sacks of dried ginger weighing around 205kg and 75g were found from a three wheeler travelling in the area. Accordingly, the 02 suspects in connection to this incident, along with smuggled items and the three-wheeler were taken into the naval custody.
The suspects held in this search were identified as residents of Mallakam and Puttalam, aged 34 and 47. The 02 suspects along with the stock of cashew nuts and dried ginger as well as the three-wheeler (01) were handed over to the Kankasanthurai Police for onward legal action.
