A suspect nabbed with cache of herbicide and insecticide in Kalmunai

A combined operation conducted by the Navy and Police STF in Nintavur on 27th March 2024 led to the apprehension of a suspect (01) and seizure of a cache of herbicide and insecticide made ready for sale in a retail shop.

The Sri Lanka Navy is vigilantly monitoring and conducting operations to curb illegal activities taking place in its sea and coastal territories.

In continuation of these efforts, SLNS Deegayu in the Southeastern Naval Command carried out a search operation at a retail shop in Nintavur area, with the assistance of Police STF. The search resulted in the apprehension of a suspect (01) and seizure of 250 packets of herbicide (each weighing 100g) and 676 packets of insecticide (each weighing 10g), made ready for sale in the retail shop.

The suspect held in this operation was identified as a resident of Nintavur, aged 60. The accused along with the cache of herbicide and insecticide was handed over to the Agriculture Office in Ampara for onward legal action.
