Navy seizes approx. 1955kg of smuggled Tendu leaves in Norochcholai

A search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in Norochcholai area on 23rd December 2023, led to the seizure of a lorry loaded with approx. 1955kg of smuggled Tendu leaves.

The operation was carried out by SLNS Thambapanni in the Northwestern Naval Command in Norochcholai area in the wee hours of 23rd December. During the search, naval personnel inspected a suspicious lorry parked at the Norochcholai Economic Centre and found 63 packages of smuggled Tendu leaves weighing around 1955kg in the vehicle. Thus, the stock of Tendu leaves and the lorry were taken into the naval custody.

Meanwhile, the consignment of Tendu leaves and the lorry were handed over to the Customs Preventive Office Katunayake for onward legal action.
