Navy divers fix defunct sluice gates of Peraru Reservoir
Sri Lanka Navy divers undertook a dedicated mission on 16th and 17th December 2023, to repair the malfunctioning sluice gates of the Peraru Reservoir. These efforts, prompted by recent heavy rainfall, aimed to facilitate the discharge of excess rainwater accumulating in the Peraru Reservoir, situated in the Peraru Kulam area of the Vavuniya district.
The Peraru Reservoir, under the management of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board in Vavuniya, encountered a critical issue with its sluice gates, leading to dysfunction. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the Disaster Management Centre reached out to the Navy, seeking their expertise in diving assistance.
The dedicated mission was carried out by a team of Navy divers from the North Central Naval Command. Accordingly, the Navy divers exerted considerable effort to repair the malfunctioning sluice gates and mud sluice of the reservoir, successfully restoring their functionality.
Meanwhile, the Navy is always prepared to lend its professional skills to address critical issues of this nature, arising from emergencies.
