Smuggled consignment of Tendu leaves seized by Navy in Norochcholai
The Navy intercepted a cab and seized about 1286kg of Tendu leaves, believed to have been smuggled into the country, during a special operation mounted in Sethapola area in Norochcholai this morning (07th December 2023). The operation also led to the apprehension of 02 suspects in connection to the racket.
The Sri Lanka Navy consistently carries out search operations and patrols along the island's coastal areas to deter the smuggling of unauthorized items into the country. As an extension of these efforts, SLNS Thambapanni in the Northwestern Naval Command made this apprehension, during a special operation carried out in Sethapola area this morning. In this operation, naval personnel intercepted a suspicious cab which was carrying about 1286kg of smuggled Tendu leaves. The operation also resulted in the apprehension of 02 suspects for their involvement in the illegal act.
The suspects held in the operation were identified as residents of Puttalam, aged 25 and 28. The suspects together with Tendu leaves and the cab were handed over to the Norochcholai Police for onward legal action.
