Kerala cannabis unearthed from garden in Veththalakerni, Jaffna

A coordinated operation carried out by the Navy and Police on 27th November 2023 in Waththiyaran of Veththalakerni in Jaffna, led to the recovery of over 34kg of Kerala cannabis buried in a garden. During the operation, a person suspected to be involved in the incident was also arrested.

The joint operation was carried out by the Naval Deployment Veththalakerni in the Northern Naval Command with the assistance of Marudankerni Police. The stock of Kerala cannabis were in 17 parcels which had been contained in 03 buried plastic barrels. Unearthed Kerala cannabis weighed around 34kg and 400g. Meanwhile, the raiding party also nabbed a person suspect to be his connection to the incident.

The gross street value of this stock of Kerala cannabis is believed to be over Rs. 13 million.

The 24 year old suspect held in this operation is a resident of Talayadi area. The accused along with Kerala cannabis was handed over to the Marudankerni Police for onward legal action.
