Two (02) suspects held whilst transporting Kerala cannabis in Jaffna

A coordinated search operation mounted by the Navy and Police in Naranthane area of the Kayts Island, Jaffna led to the apprehension of two suspects for transporting over 3 kg of Kerala cannabis on 25th November 2023. Along with Kerala cannabis being transported for sale, a motorbike used for this illegal activity was also held.

The coordinated operation was carried out by SLNS Kanchadewa in the Northern Naval Command with the assistants of Kayts Police in Naranthane area on 25th November. During the operation, a motorcycle on the road was searched on suspicion and 3kg and 592g of Kerala cannabis in 02 parcels were found from the possession of 02 suspects who were transporting them. Accordingly the two suspects, Kerala Cannabis and the motorcycle were taken into custody.

The street value of the stock of Kerala cannabis is believed to be over Rs. 01 million.

The suspects were identified as residents of Mannar and Kayts, aged 27 and 34, and the suspects along with motorcycle and Kerala cannabis were handed over to the Kayts Police for onward legal action.
