Two (02) suspects with Kerala cannabis valued at over Rs. 41 Mn street value held in Jaffna

A special search operation conducted by the Navy in the coastal vicinity of Vaddukoddai, Jaffna today (29th October 2023) led to the apprehension of 02 suspects with about 104kg of Kerala cannabis and a three-wheeler.

Accordingly, SLNS Uththara and SLNS Agbo naval establishments in the Northern Naval Command conducted this search operation on a road in the coastal vicinity of Vaddukoddai today. During subsequent search, Naval personnel seized about 104kg of Kerala cannabis being transported in a three-wheeler, which was intercepted on suspicion. The stock of Kerala cannabis was in 50 parcels which had been contained in 03 sacks. Further, the Navy also held 02 suspects in connection to this incident.

Meanwhile, the gross street value of the seized Kerala cannabis is believed to be over Rs. 41 million.

The suspects held in the operation are resident of Madagal and Kilinochchi, aged 25 and 40. The suspects along with Kerala cannabis and the three-wheeler were handed over to the Vaddukoddai Police for onward legal action.
