Commander of the Navy visits Navy’s flood-relief efforts in Southern Province

Following adverse weather conditions prevailing in several parts of the island, the Sri Lanka Navy has mobilized its flood relief teams in Matara, Akuressa, Thihagoda and Kamuburupitiya areas in the Southern Province as of 04th October 2023. With a view to observe the Navy’s commitment in providing assistance to the flood-affected individuals in those regions, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera visited the Matara district today 08th October.

Following the overflowing of Nilwala river, the Navy has mobilised a vehicle with a mobile kitchen and a team of naval personnel since 07th October at the Godapitiya Temple in Akuressa. The Navy facility has been providing cooked meals to the monks of the temple and flood affected communities in the area since this morning.

Having arrived at Godapitiya Temple in Akuressa, Commander of the Navy inspected the proceedings over there and gave necessary directives to the Navy relief teams deployed there to continue their work for the betterment of the communities.

Also, the Navy flood relief teams in the Southern Province are currently busy in providing assistance to the flood victims in those areas, in close coordination with the Disaster Management Centre and government officials in the area. It is in this backdrop, the Commander of the Navy gave necessary directives to the Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Chinthaka Kumarasinghe and the relief teams engaged in those duties to undertake the flood relief efforts at the full swing.
