Navy takes hold of smuggled consignment of Kendu leaves in Puttalam

The Sri Lanka Navy took hold of about 792kg (wet weight) of smuggled Kendu leaves during a special operation carried out in Thillayadi, Puttalam in the wee hours of today (26th August 2023).

The special operation was mounted by SLNS Thambapanni in the Northwestern Naval Command in Thillayadi area this morning. The search operation led to the seizure of about 792kg and 800g (wet weight) of Kendu leaves in 23 packages which had been left behind at the beach.

The consignment of Kendu leaves had been kept in the safe custody of the Navy until it is handed over to authorities for onward legal action.
