Navy apprehends suspect with prescription drugs in Medawachchiya

A coordinated search operation conducted by the Navy and Food and Drugs Inspector Unit in Anuradhapura on 14th August 2023 led to the apprehension of a suspect with 11377 capsules of Pregabalin 150mg. The prescription drug had been available for sale by illegal means at a pharmacy in front of the Divisional Hospital Medawachchiya, when the apprehension was made.

The search operation was conducted by SLNS Pandukabhaya in the North Central Naval Command in coordination with the Food and Drugs Inspector Unit in Anuradhapura. Upon search of a pharmacy in front of the Divisional Hospital Medawachchiya on suspicion, 11377 capsules of Pregabalin 150mg were held, as they were available for sale by illegal means. During the search, a suspect in connection to this incident was also apprehended.

The suspect held is a 40 year old resident of Medawachchiya area. Meanwhile, the suspect along with 11377 capsules of Pregabalin were handed over to the Food and Drugs Inspector Unit in Anuradhapura for onward legal action.
