A suspect held with 2000 foreign cigarettes in Colombo

A coordinated operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and Police on Malwatta Road, Colombo 11 on 31st May 2023 led to the apprehension of a suspect who was transferring 2000 foreign cigarettes for sale.

The Navy often renders its assistance to law enforcement agencies to prevent illegal activities. Upon receipt of information by the Navy, SLNS Rangalla belonging to the Western Naval Command and Wellaweediya Police conducted this special search operation on Malwatta Road on 31st May. During the operation, the raiding party apprehended the suspicious individual, while he was carrying 2000 foreign cigarettes for sale.

The suspect is a 49-year-old resident of Matara. Meanwhile, the suspect together with 2000 foreign cigarettes was handed over to the Wellaweediya Police for onward legal action.
