A suspect held with 2000 foreign cigarettes in Ja-Ela

The Sri Lanka Navy and Police arrested a person who was transferring 2000 foreign cigarettes to sell, during a special search operation conducted in Ja-Ela area on 17th March 2023.

The Navy often renders its assistance to law enforcement agencies to prevent illegal activities. Upon receipt of information by the Navy, SLNS Gemunu in the Western Naval Command and Ja-Ela Police conducted this combined operation in the evening of 17th March. Accordingly, a person on the road was searched on suspicion and these 2000 foreign cigarettes were found in his possession, as the suspect was carrying them to sell.

The suspect is a 21 year old resident of Ragama. Meanwhile, the suspect together with 2000 foreign cigarettes was handed over to the Ja-Ela Police for onward legal action.
