A suspect with over 10kg of Kerala cannabis held in Mannar
The Navy in coordination with the Police apprehended a person with over 10kg of Kerala cannabis, during a combined operation carried out in Pallemunai, Mannar on the evening of 03rd March 2023.
The Navy keeps a watchful eye on the coastal and sea areas around the island and conducts regular patrols and search operations, with a view to curb a wide range of illegal activities carried out by smugglers via sea routes.
Based on information collected from a combined intelligence operation mounted by SLNS Therapuththa in the Northwestern Naval Command and SLNS Gajaba in the North Central Naval Command, the search was carried out with the assistance of Police Station Vice Branch Mannar, in Pallemunai area. The operation led to the apprehension of a suspect who was carrying about 10kg and 415g of Kerala cannabis in 05 packages, to sell.
The gross street value of the seized stock of Kerala cannabis is believed to be over Rs. 03 million.
The suspect apprehended in this operation has been identified as a resident of Pallemunai area, aged 42. The accused along with the stock of Kerala cannabis was handed over to the Mannar Police for onward legal action.
