A suspect apprehended with 10kg of Kerala cannabis in Kilinochchi

A combined operation mounted by the Navy and the Police Special Task Force led to the apprehension of a suspect (01) with about 10kg of Kerala cannabis and a motorcycle in Wattakachchi, Kilinochchi on the night of 06th February 2023.

The coordinated search operation was mounted by the Naval Deployment Vettalakeni in the Northern Naval Command with the Police Special Task Force in the Wattakachchi area on 06th February. The recovery of Kerala cannabis was made after interrogating a person who was suspiciously roaming in a paddy field in the area. The recovered 05 packages, which had been hidden in the paddy field, contained Kerala cannabis weighing about 10kg. Accordingly, the suspect along with the consignment of narcotic substance and the motorcycle was taken into custody.

The gross street value of the stock of Kerala cannabis is believed to be over Rs. 3 million.

The suspect apprehended in this operation is a 20 year old resident of Kilinochchi. The accused along with the stock of Kerala cannabis and the motorcycle was handed over to the Ramanadapuram Police in Kilinochchi for onward legal action.
