Navy renders assistance to snuff out fire at mill

The Navy was pressed into action to put out a sudden fire erupted at a mill in Werella area, Wattala in the wee hours of today (27th January 2023).

Reportedly, a mill on the ground floor of a two-storied building in Werella has unfortunately caught fire. Following the incident, the Wattala Police this morning (27th January) requested firefighting assistance from the Operations Room of SLNS Gemunu in Welisara, to control the fire and prevent the spread of flames to surrounding areas.

Accordingly, a firefighting team with a fire engine attached to SLNS Gemunu was rushed to the scene to extinguish the flames. Working shoulder to shoulder with the staff of the mill, the Navy firefighters made a spirited effort to snuff out the flames and prevented its spread.

Sri Lanka Navy remains standby around the clock to provide relief to the public in case of any emergency.
