Three suspects held for cultivating local cannabis in Thanamalwila
Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 03 suspects for cultivating local cannabis, during a coordinated search operation carried out in Thanamalwila on 12th January 2023.
The Navy renders its all-out contribution to anti-drug operations being conducted across the country. In a similar effort, SLNS Deeghayu in the Southeastern Naval Command in coordination with Police STF in Sagama carried out the raid in Thanamalwila on 12th January. The operation led to the recovery of 03 local cannabis cultivations with 2550 plants, 13kg and 550g of dried local cannabis and apprehension of 03 suspects with locally made 02 guns.
The gross street value of 13kg and 550g of dried local cannabis is believed to be over Rs. 600,000.
The suspects held in this raid are residents of Thanamalwila area, from 22 to 43 years of age. Meanwhile, the cannabis cultivations were sent on fire and destroyed on the location. The suspects together with seized cannabis and 02 guns were handed over to the Thanamalwila Police for onward legal action.
