Navy pressed into action to clean remains collected in Deduru Oya near Anavilundawa area
Sri Lanka Navy pressed into action to clear debris and other remains collected in a tributary belonging to the Deduru Oya which flows in the Anavilundawa area of Puttalam. The Navy shouldered this task from 22nd to 24th June 2022 to clear the tributary, as it was blocked by the overgrowth of aquatic plants and the accumulation of waste.
Responding to a request of the Department of Irrigation – Puttalam from the Navy, the Command Diving Unit undertook the particular task, under the guidance of the Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Suresh De Silva. As a result of the prompt involvement of the Navy, the aquatic vegetation and other remains which blocked the regular flow of water in ‘Pahina' Bay area of Anavilundawa were removed. The timely move helped overcome difficulties in obtaining water for agricultural purposes and minimize the risk of floods as well.
Meanwhile, the Navy is constantly on the lookout for assistance to alleviate inconvenience caused to the public when obtaining water for agricultural needs as well as to avert the risk of floods due to such obstructions.
