Navy in search and rescue operation to locate missing persons in ferry accident in Kinniya
Sri Lanka Navy has commenced a dedicated rescue mission this morning (23rd November 2021) to locate missing persons in a ferry accident that occurred near Kurinchankerny bridge in Kinniya, Trincomalee.
Accordingly, Navy deployed eight (08) rescue teams comprising Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS), Special Boat Squadron (SBS), Marines and Divers and operations are underway to search missing persons. The ferry had been used by residents of this area due to constructions of existing Kurinchankerny bridge.
As of now, 06 dead bodies have been recovered by rescue teams while 12 persons have been rescued and hospitalized. The Navy is continuing the search operation in the area further.
