Navy nabs a suspect with 1064kg of smuggled dried turmeric in Norochcholai

Sri Lanka Navy seized about 1064kg of smuggled dried turmeric, hidden in a fishing hut, during a special operation conducted at the beach of Norochcholai today (04th October 2021). The operation also led to the apprehension of a suspect from the location.

Incidentally, SLNS Thambapanni in the Northwestern Naval Command made this apprehension after searching a suspicious fishing hut, during a special operation carried out in the beach area of Norochcholai this evening. The search made way to the recovery of a hidden stash of dried turmeric amounting to be around 1064kg in 32 sacks, as well as apprehension of the suspect.

The operation was conducted adhering to COVID-19 protocols and the suspect held during it is a resident of Narakkalliya in Norochcholai aged 22. The suspect along with the stock of dried turmeric will be handed over to the Norochcholai Police for onward legal action.
