Navy brings ashore a fisherman injured at sea
Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to bring ashore a fishermen injured at sea and transferred him to hospital for treatment at the night of 26th September 2021. The fisherman was injured following an accident mid sea, while aboard a local fishing vessel about 30 nautical miles (approx. 55km) off Trincomalee.
The fishing vessel ‘Sudu Ruwan 3’ from which the patient was retrieved has left the Ambalangoda fisheries harbour on 19th September 2021 for fishing practice. Meanwhile, the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, has informed the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo at Navy Headquarters, about a fisherman who sustained injuries from falling, while aboard.
In response to a request for assistance, Sri Lanka Navy directed the Fast Attack Craft P 4444 of 4th Fast Attack Flotilla (4 FAF) attached to the Eastern Command to the location of the fishing vessel to retrieve the patient. Upon taking the injured onboard the Fast Attack Craft, he was brought to Trincomalee, administering him first aid. Off the Trincomalee harbour the patient was transferred to the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Inshore Patrol Craft CG 210 and he was brought to the port of Trincomalee. Subsequently, the patient was rushed to the District General Hospital of Trincomalee for further treatment.
Meanwhile, the Navy remains alert to respond to this nature of eventualities around the clock, with a view to assist naval and fishing community in distress in Sri Lanka’s Search and Rescue Region.
