Sri Lanka Navy on 11th May 2021 apprehended a person who was returning to Mannar area by a small boat via sea routes, after having flown to India by air. Along with the suspect, 02 persons aboard and another 02 suspects involved in the act of smuggling were also taken into naval custody.

Navy apprehends an illegal migrant along with smugglers involved in illegal act

Sri Lanka Navy on 11th May 2021 apprehended a person who was returning to Mannar area by a small boat via sea routes, after having flown to India by air. Along with the suspect, 02 persons aboard and another 02 suspects involved in the act of smuggling were also taken into naval custody.

The person returning from India by illegal means is a resident of Jaffna and the 02 smugglers aboard as well as the other 02 individuals involved in this illegal act were identified as residents of Mannar. All of these individuals were directed to quarantine through the Public Health Inspectors of the area, upon their apprehension.

The Navy remains alert with regard to illegal activities of this nature in Sri Lankan waters, to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 in the country.
