Navy assists apprehension of 09 suspects with illegal drugs

The search operations conducted in past few days by Sri Lanka Navy in Southern, North Central, Western and Northwestern Naval Commands, resulted apprehension of 08 suspects, 01 female suspect with heroin, Kerala cannabis and local cannabis.

Accordingly, naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command with Hambanthota Police Anti Corruption Unit conducted a raid which led to the apprehension of 06 suspects with about 1g and 538mg of heroin at Gabada junction in Hambanthota. In the same vein, another suspect (01) in possession of about 280mg of heroin which was made ready for sale, was arrested at Rishard city area in Thalaimannar, by the North Central Naval Command with the assistance of Divisional Vice Squad-Mannar.

Meanwhile, a suspect who possessed 03g of Kerala cannabis was held by Western Naval Command during a search conducted in a road block at Dandugama bridge, Ja Ela. Apart from these apprehensions, Northwestern Naval Command was able to apprehend a female suspect who kept 08g and 91mg of local cannabis, set for sale in her possession, at Mampuri area in Norochcholai.

The accused who are from 17 to 55 years of age were identified as residents of Hambanthota, Thalaimannar, Ja Ela and Mampuri areas. The 09 suspects along with illegal substances were handed over to the Police stations of Hambanthota, Thalaimannar, Ja Ela and Norochcholai for onward investigation.
