Six suspects with over 12kg of Kerala cannabis apprehended by Navy
The Navy apprehended 06 suspects for possession of over 12kg of Kerala cannabis, during search operations conducted at Kurinnamvette in Puttalam, Trincomalee bus station and in Seeduwa area
Sri Lanka Navy has been conducting constant anti-drug operations island-wide to curb smuggling of drugs. Accordingly, two suspects with about 12kg of Kerala cannabis were apprehended by Northwestern Naval Command during a search operation conducted in Kurinnamvette area, Puttalam today (08th September 2020). During another joint operation conducted by Eastern Naval Command with Division Narcotic Branch Trincomalee a female and two male suspects were nabbed near the Trincomalee bus station as well.
Meanwhile, a suspect with 15g of Kerala cannabis and about 250 Nos. of Pregabalin capsules (150mg) without a medical prescription was held, in Seeduwa area during an operation carried out by Western Naval Command in coordination with Police STF-Rajagiriya.
The accused who are from 21 to 42 years of age, have been identified as residents of Madurankuliya, Muthur, Erakkandi, Kilinochchi and Marawila areas. Meanwhile, the suspects together with the seized Kerala cannabis and other controlled drugs were handed over to the Puttalam Police Narcotic Division, Police Station, Headquarters Trincomalee and Seeduwa Police for onward investigation.
