Augmenting its anti-drug operations that are in place to wipe-out the drug menace from the country, Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to apprehend 04 suspects including a woman for possession of illegal drugs, during the past week.

Accordingly, naval personnel attached to the Northwestern Naval Command with the Kalpitiya Police conducted a raid which led to the apprehension of 02 suspects with about 1g and 780mg of heroin in Norochcholei area. In the same vein, another suspect (01) in possession of about 400mg of heroin was arrested in China Bay, by a group of naval personnel of the Eastern Naval Command with the support of the Trincomalee Division Narcotic Branch of Sri Lanka Police. In another coordinated search with the STF Pulmoddai, naval troops of Eastern Naval Command had nabbed a woman for possession of 200g of Kerala cannabis in Kuchchaveli area.

The accused who are from 22 to 47 years of age were identified as residents of China Bay, Kalmunai, Mannar and Kuchchaveli areas. Meanwhile, the 04 suspects along with illegal substances were handed over to the Police stations of Kalpitiya, Trincomalee and Kuchchaveli for onward legal action.
