Navy assists apprehension of 02 suspects for possession of illegal and dangerous drugs
The Navy, during two separate operations carried out with the Police, arrested a man with controlled substance and a woman for possession of heroin in Trincomalee on 18th and 19th July 2020.
The Navy has been conducting a number of anti-drug operations across the country in a bid to keep a tight rein on smuggling of drugs and protect the school children and youth from the drug menace.
As an extension of these efforts, naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command together with Harbour Police -Trincomalee conducted an operation in Ganesh Lane, Trincomalee on 18th July. During this operation, the security personnel apprehended a person who was transferring 100 capsules (10 cards) of illegally obtained Pregazim, a harmful drug in overdose, on a motorbike. Accordingly, the rider along with the capsules of Pregazim and the motorbike was taken into custody.
On the following day (19 th July), a group of naval personnel of the same Naval Command with China Bay Police, conducted a special operation in China Bay area and arrested a woman for possession of about 01g of heroin. It was further revealed that the female suspect was transferring heroin for sale.
The suspects were identified as residents of Trincomalee, aged 18 (male) and 45 (female). The Harbour Police and China Bay Police of Trincomalee are conducting further investigation into these incidents.
