The Sri Lanka Navy swiftly responded to bring ashore an injured fisherman and transfer him to the General Hospital, Trincomalee, for urgent medical attention today (06 Feb 25). Reportedly, the fisherman with hand injuries was aboard a multiday fishing trawler on the high seas off the east coast of Trincomalee and the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo coordinated the retrieval of the injured fisherman with the assistance of a Bulk Carrier.

The Sri Lanka Navy brought ashore an ill fisherman who was in critical condition aboard a local multiday fishing trawler, south of the island about 43 nautical miles (79km) off Galle. Upon being brought ashore, he was transferred to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for medical attention today (06 Feb 25).

A coordinated search operation conducted by the Navy and Police in Pesalai, Mannar on 04 Feb 25, led to the arrest of 03 suspects for smuggling pigeons, African love birds and flying squirrels as well as medicinal drugs into the island. The operation also led to the seizure of a lorry being used for the smuggling racket.

A search operation conducted by the Navy in the Alankuda sea area of Norochcholei on 01 Feb 25 led to the seizure of about 496kg of dried ginger and 515 pairs of shoes, attempted to be smuggled into the island. The operation also resulted in the apprehension of 02 suspects along with a dinghy.

The Sri Lanka Navy seized an Indian fishing boat (01) and apprehended 10 Indian fishermen while they were poaching in Sri Lankan waters, during a special operation conducted in the sea area south of Mannar in the dark hours of 02 Feb 25.

A coordinated search operation conducted by the Navy and Police led to the arrest of a suspect with 101 unauthorized fishing nets, made ready for sale, in the township of Kanthale on 01 Feb 25.

The Sri Lanka Navy took hold of about 1670kg and 500g of smuggled Kendu leaves and a dinghy, during a search operation conducted off Kepumgoda, Negombo on 01 Jan 25.

The Sri Lanka Navy and Madurankuliya Police nabbed a suspect (1) with about 1kg and 585g of Kerala cannabis, during a coordinated operation conducted in Navadankulama, Baththuluoya on 31 Jan 25. The operation also resulted in the seizure of a motorbike used to peddle narcotic substance.

The fire brigade of the Ports Authority, Colombo sprang into action to extinguish a fire that erupted unexpectedly in a container at the terminal of Bandaranaike Quay IV (BQ IV) in the Port of Colombo on the night of 30 Jan 25. A Sri Lanka Navy's firefighting team from the Western Naval Command also rendered assistance in these efforts.
