SLN contingent took part in RIMPAC 2022 arrives the island
Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) Marine contingent which left for the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise 2022, hosted by the US Pacific Fleet, arrived the island on 08th August 2022. The SLN contingent on 03rd August successfully completed its leg in the RIMPAC 2022, held in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California.

Commander of the Navy appointed as member of National Sports Council
Awarding letters of appointment to the Chairperson and members for the National Sports Council was held on 10th August 2022 at the National Sports Council, Torrington Avenue, under the patronage of the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Hon. Roshan Ranasinghe. On this occasion, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne was also appointed as a member of the National Sports Council. The National Sports Council has been established with the notion to advise the Minister on matters connected with the promotion, development and control of sports in Sri Lanka.

Thirty-six (36) Midshipmen bestowed to the nation after dignified commissioning ceremony in Trincomalee
The commissioning of Midshipmen of the 35th (Technical) and 36th intakes of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) was held triumphantly at the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA), Trincomalee on 22nd July 2022. The eventful ceremony marked the culmination of the basic training period of 36 Midshipmen who were groomed as prospective naval officers at KDU and NMA. At the invitation of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) graced the event as the Chief Guest and took the salute.

Over Rs 172 million worth Kerala cannabis and 02 suspects held in northern waters
Sri Lanka Navy seized a dinghy carrying about 575kg and 600g (wet weight) of Kerala cannabis and held 02 suspects, during a special operation carried out in seas off Old Casuarina Beach of Karainagar, Jaffna in the dark hours of 19th July 2022.

Navy rescues 55 distressed individuals in high seas, while attempting to illegally migrate from the country
Sri Lanka Navy on 10th July 2022 rescued 55 individuals onboard a distressed local multiday fishing trawler, caught in a cyclone, in high seas about 390 nautical miles (722km) southeast of Hambantota. The group of people, suspected to be on an illegal migration attempt to a foreign country, were in a desperate situation when they were rescued at sea. Sri Lanka Navy brought the rescued group to the port of Hambantota this morning (12th July).

Navy nabs 51 persons in eastern waters, while attempting to illegally migrate from island
A search operation carried out by the Navy in the eastern seas this morning (03rd July 2022) led to the seizure of a local multiday fishing trawler carrying 51 persons, who are suspected to be on an illegal migration attempt to a foreign country via sea.
