Navy rescues 38 local tourists aboard a distressed trawler in Kalpitiya seas
Sri Lanka Navy sprang into action to rescue 38 persons aboard a distressed trawler, while it was carrying the group of local tourists from Kalpitiya to Baththalangunduwa on the evening of 01st October 2022. The trawler was in desperate situation following a leakage of sea water into the craft.

Navy women make SLN naval diving history by successfully completing first ever Basic Diving Module for women
The first of its kind Basic Diving Module arranged for the lady officers and women sailors of the Sri Lanka Navy concluded on a successful note in Trincomalee recently. The certificate awarding for 03 participants who successfully completed the module was held under the patronage of the Commandant of Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA), Commodore Damian Fernando at the Diving School in the Naval Dockyard Trincomalee on 24th September 2022.

Navy SC wins under 24 open rugby 7s championship and crowned plate champion in Nippon Paint Inter Club Rugby League
The Navy Sports Club (SC) won the western province under 24 open rugby 7s championship and crowned as plate champion in the Nippon Paint Inter Club Rugby League 2021/2022 recent rugby encounters. Calling on Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne who is also the President of Navy Sports Board at the Navy Headquarters today (21st September 2022), the winning captains of respective teams shared a moment with Commander of the Navy with the trophies clinched by the Navy.

Navy seizes poaching trawler in northern waters
Sri Lanka Navy conducted a special operation to chase away Indian poaching trawlers from Sri Lanka’s waters on the night of 19th/sup> September 2022. The operation led to the seizure of an Indian trawler with 08 Indian nationals poaching in island’s waters off Kovilan Lighthouse, Kankasanthurai.

Navy netball players represented Sri Lanka at the Asian Netball Championship advanced to next rate
Two players from the Sri Lanka Navy, namely Woman Leading Seaman, Deepika Abeykoon (WVS 66974) and Woman Able Seaman Hasitha Mendis (WV 76519) represented the victorious Sri Lanka team that went on to win the Asian Netball Championship title. In recognition of their stellar performances, which ultimately brought much glory to the Navy and the Nation, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne felicitated the players and advanced them to the next respective rates during a brief ceremony held in this regard at the Navy Headquarters today (15th September 2022). In addition, the 02 players were also presented with cash rewards worth Rs. 250,000.00 each, motivating to bring out the best from the sportspersons in the Navy.

Navy nabs 85 individuals suspected to be attempting to illegally migrate from island, in eastern waters
Sri Lanka Navy took hold of a local multiday fishing trawler carrying 85 individuals, suspected to be a group on an illegal migration attempt to a foreign country via sea, during a patrol conducted off Batticaloa in the wee hours of today (11th September 2022).

Nineteen (19) naval personnel excelled in physical fitness tests recognized
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne felicitated 19 naval personnel, who excelled in physical fitness tests, during a ceremony held in this regard at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium today (07th September 2022). In accordance with the Physical Fitness Policy of the Sri Lanka Navy, these nineteen (19) naval personnel were recognized from dedicated fitness tests held in August 2022. The achievers also received prizes, certificates and insignia during the ceremony presided by Commander of the Navy.

Offshore Patrol Vessel P 627, the recent addition to SLN Fleet, sails for Colombo from Seattle, United States
The Offshore Patrol Vessel P 627, which was formally handed over to the Sri Lanka Navy by the U.S. Coast Guard in October 2021, departed for Sri Lanka from the Port of Seattle, United States on 03rd September 2022. The home bound journey began, after the modernization work of the ship to suit the operational needs of the Sri Lanka Navy.
