Gilanpasa Puja and Alms Giving held at Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic on 72nd Anniversary of Navy
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne along with the President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Chandima Ulugetenne attended religious rituals where Gilanpasa Buddha Puja and Alms Giving were held at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic on 08th and 09th December 2022. The events were coordinated by the Buddhist Association, to invoke blessings on the 72nd Anniversary of the Navy.

Sri Lanka Navy – the First Line of Defence of the nation turns 72 today
Sri Lanka Navy which is held in high esteem as the First Line of Defence of the Nation is marking the organization’s 72nd Anniversary today (09th December 2022). At the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, a wide range of programmes are being conducted in each Naval Command, giving prominence to time-honoured naval customs and religious practices. In addition, capital ships of the Sri Lanka Navy will rest at anchor off the Galle Face Green today (09th December), giving the public an opportunity to have a glance at some of the major ships of the Sri Lanka Navy.

Navy apprehends 20 would-be illegal immigrants off Trincomalee
Sri Lanka Navy took hold of a local multi-day fishing trawler carrying 20 would-be illegal immigrants to a foreign country, during a special operation conducted in the seas east of the Foul Point, Trincomalee in the wee hours of 05th December 2022.

Commander of the Navy felicitates Navy medalists for making country proud at World Carrom Championship
Able Seaman Nishantha Fernando and Women Able Seaman Joseph Roshita who won silver and bronze medals at the 08th World Carrom Championship 2022 called on Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Navy Headquarters today (28th November 2022). During the brief interaction, Commander of the Navy admired their achievement and awarded cash incentives to both players in appreciation of their effort which delivered laurels to the country.

All-night Pirith Chanting and Alms Giving ceremonies invoke blessings on 72nd Anniversary of Navy

The meritorious events were organized by the Buddhist Association of the Navy to invoke blessings on the forthcoming 72nd Anniversary (09th December) of the Sri Lanka Navy.

Pride of SLN fleet - P 627 commissioned as SLNS ‘Vijayabahu’
The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe commissioned the Offshore Patrol Vessel P 627, the recent inclusion to the fleet of Sri Lanka Navy (SLN), as SLNS ‘Vijayabahu’ at the East Container Terminal of the Port of Colombo on 22nd November 2022. At the invitation of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, this milestone event was attended by U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H.E. Julie Chung, Governor of the North-Western Province Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda, Chief of Staff to the President and Senior Advisor to the President on National Security, Mr. Sagala Rathnayaka, Defence Secretary, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd), Chief of Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, Inspector General of Police, CD Wickramarathne and a host of distinguished invitees.

Navy receives blessings at Joint Christian Commemoration & Thanksgiving Service in view of its 72nd Anniversary
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne along with the President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Chandima Ulugetenne attended the Joint Christian Commemoration & Thanksgiving Service at St. Lucia’s Cathedral in Kotahena on18th November 2022. The event was organized by the Navy Christian Council in line with a series of multi religious events organized to invoke blessings on the 72nd Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy (09th December).

Merits invoked on naval war heroes laid down their lives in Nagatevanturai and Pooneryn
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne attended a meritorious event of alms giving, organized at the Naval Detachment (ND) Nagatevanturai on 16th November 2022, to transfer merit on a group of naval war veterans who laid down their lives in Nagatevanturai and Pooneryn, Jaffna. On 11th November 1993, 114 brave sons of the Sri Lanka Navy made supreme sacrifice for the nation, in averting a terrorist attack on ND Nagatevanturai and Pooneryn camp.

Proceedings of 72nd Anniversary of Navy commence at Ruwanwelisaya and Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi
The symbolic Kanchuka Puja and Flag Blessing ceremonies organized in view of the 72nd Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy were held under the auspices of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne along with the attendance of the President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne at the Ruwanwelisaya and Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura on 09th and 10th November 2022. The Buddhist Association of Sri Lanka Navy organized these events to invoke blessings on the forthcoming Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy, falling on 09th December.

Navy seizes local fishing trawler carrying over 331kg of heroin worth around Rs. 6622 - 13244 Mn gross street value in southern waters
A special operation conducted by the Navy in coordination with the Police Special Task Force and Police Narcotic Bureau off the Great Basses Reef Lighthouse Hambantota, led to the interception of a local fishing trawler carrying over 331kg of heroin (Including packages), worth around Rs. 6622 – 13244 million in gross street value and apprehension of 06 suspects on 05th November 2022. The drug-carrying trawler and the suspects were brought to the Galle Harbour this morning (07th November). Meanwhile, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne also arrived at the Galle Harbour to inspect the consignment.
