The newly established Hemodialysis Unit at the Navy General Hospital, Welisara was declared open under the auspices of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne and with the attendance of the President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne today (15th July 2021).

Commander of the Navy presides over SBS insignia awarding ceremony
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne presided over the ceremony held at the Special Boat Squadron (SBS) Headquarters in Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee today (07th July 2021) to award insignia to 43 SBS personnel of the 28th intake, who successfully completed their training.

High Dependency Unit of Kalubowila Teaching Hospital declared open
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne today (25th June 2021) presided over the opening of High Dependency Unit (HDU) of Colombo South Teaching Hospital Kalubowila, renovated with Navy’s able manpower, as part of its initiatives to strengthen the Government's programme to expand infrastructure required to treat individuals tested positive for COVID-19. In response to a request made by the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka Navy undertook the setting up of this special unit for which financial sponsorship was made by philanthropist from both home and away.

‘Commander Parakrama Samaraweera Memorial Indoor Sports Complex’ opened in Welisara
Having named after the newly constructed Navy sporting facility as ‘Commander Parakrama Samaraweera Memorial Indoor Sports Complex’, it was declared open under the patronage of Commander of the Navy and President Navy Sports Board, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne and with the attendance of beloved wife of late Commander Parakrama Samaraweera, Mrs. Sudarshani Samaraweera at Welisara Naval Complex today (23rd June 2021).

Navy seizes over 219kg of heroin worth over Rs. 1758 million
A special search operation conducted by the Navy in the coastal area of Polwathumodara, Weligama in the dark hours on 12th June 2021, led to the seizure of over 219kg of heroin attempted to be smuggled into the island by sea and apprehension of 09 suspects involved in the illegal act.

Commander of the Navy appreciates contribution of ICGS ‘Samudra Prahari’, ‘Vajra’ and ‘Vaibhav’
Appreciative of the praiseworthy contribution made by Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) ‘Samudra Prahari’, ‘Vajra’ and ‘Vaibhav’ during damage control operation in collaboration with other stakeholders, following MV X-PRESS PEARL caught fire off Colombo harbour on 20th May 2021, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne presented Letters of Appreciation to the Commanding Officers of those ships in a simple ceremony at the port of Colombo today (10th June 2021).

Thirty two (32) Navy relief teams engaged in flood relief operations
To provide relief to the people affected by floods in the Western, Southern and Sabaragamuwa Provinces due to heavy rains, Sri Lanka Navy has deployed 32 relief teams in flood relief operations in the districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Galle and Rathnapura. Meanwhile, the Navy teams continue to attend urgent relief operations focusing the flood affected communities today (07th June 2021) as well.

Commander of the Navy inspects beach area affected due to fire onboard MV X-PRESS PEARL
The fire on MV X-PRESS PEARL, a container ship anchored 9.5 nautical miles northwest of the Port of Colombo, is subsiding at this point in time. As of this morning (27th May 2021), heavy smoke and small flames were observed from the ship.

A solemn ceremony to commemorate fallen Navy war veterans who made the supreme sacrifice for the defeat of terrorism that battered the country nearly three decades, was held under the patronage of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Naval War Hero Monument in Welisara today (19th May 2021).

Naval Social Responsibility project develops 08 underprivileged schools across the country
In connection with the 70th anniversary of Sri Lanka Navy, the sea going arm of the country has launched another social responsibility initiative, under the directives and guidance of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, to develop selected underprivileged schools in the country, in year 2021.
