Commander of the Navy embarks on visit to Northwestern Naval Command
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, embarking on a visit to the Northwestern Naval Command, looked into the operational and welfare aspects of the command on 09th and 10th October 2021. During the 02 day visit, he was also accompanied by President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne.

Navy ushers new hope to children of Kelinkanda Janapadaya Primary School in Kalutara
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne declared open navy-improved facilities at the Kelinkanda Janapadaya Primary School in Agalawatta of Kalutara District today (07th October 2021). Thus, the Navy vested renovated classroom buildings, plumbing, safety fences, sanitary facilities, playground and other facilities with the children of the school.

SLNS ‘Jayasagara’ relinquishes her service in the Navy
The ceremonial decommissioning of Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) ‘Jayasagara’ took place under the patronage of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Naval Dockyard in Trincomalee on 30th September 2021. The impressive event held in keeping with naval traditions was also attended by President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne. Attached to the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) fleet, SLNS ‘Jayasagara’ rendered an invaluable service, by ensuring the maritime security of the island nation for nearly (04) four decades, as a maritime surveillance vessel.

A foreign fishing vessel carrying another haul of heroin worth over Rs.3100 million intercepted by Navy
A successful operation led by Sri Lanka Navy in coordination with Sri Lanka Police and other intelligence services in international waters south of Sri Lanka, led to the seizure of a foreign fishing vessel carrying over 336kg (including the packages) of heroin worth over Rs.3100 million gross street value. The drug transferring vessel together with 07 foreign nationals aboard was brought this morning (04th September 2021) to Colombo harbour, where Defence Secretary, General (Retd.) Kamal Gunaratne and Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne were also present to inspect the apprehended haul of narcotics.

Navy seizes over 290kg of heroin worth more than Rs.2321 million
A special operation conducted by the Navy in the high seas in the afternoon of 30th August 2021, led to the seizure of a multi-day fishing vessel carrying about 290kg and 200g stock of heroin, attempted to be smuggled into the island by sea. The operation also made way to the apprehension of 05 suspects in connection to this smuggling attempt. Meanwhile, the fishing vessel with heroin and the suspects were brought ashore this morning (31st August).

Commander of the Navy visiting INS Shakti and SLNS Shakthi appreciates their role
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne this morning (23rd August 2021) took time off to visit the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Shakti and Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Shakthi that arrived in Colombo with freight of medical-grade oxygen. Addressing the ship’s crew of INS Shakti, Commander of the Navy expressed his profound gratitude to them and the Indian Navy for their all-out support extended in the swift delivery of supplemental oxygen to Sri Lanka. By the same token he heaped praise on the crew of SLNS Shakthi that made the ship ready for this special voyage at short notice, shouldering the task of national importance.

School facilities improved by Navy bestowed on children of Roman Catholic College, Mandaitivu
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne today (01st August 2021) declared open several school facilities, expanded by Sri Lanka Navy with its funds and manpower, at the Roman Catholic College on Mandaitivu Island, Jaffna. Among the recently-developed facilities were; a new two-storeyed building and a renovated classroom building.

Commander of the Navy attends Russia`s Navy Day Parade in St Petersburg
The Russian Navy celebrated the 325th anniversary of the founding of the Russian Regular Fleet (Navy Day) on a high note in St Petersburg on 25th July 2021, in the graceful presence of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. At the invitation of the Commander in Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov, Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne and President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne, who were on an official visit to Russia attended this colourful and spectacular event.
