Commander of the Navy graces Marine insignia awarding ceremony as Chief Guest
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne awarded insignia to 04 officers and 22 sailors of the 07th intake of Sri Lanka Navy Marine, who successfully completed training attached to the amphibious arm of the Navy, at SLNS Vidura in Sampoor on 04th March 2022. The ceremony which was held under the patronage of Commander of the Navy was also attended by the President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Chandima Ulugetenne.

Navy honours nation according a 25-gun salute on Independence Day
On the sidelines of the 74th National Independence Day celebrations held under the theme “An affluent tomorrow and prosperous motherland with challenges overcome” Sri Lanka Navy honoured the nation by according a 25-Gun Salute onboard Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Gajabahu by 12.00 noon today (04th February 2022). The ceremonial tradition was executed under the guidance of the Commanding Officer of the ship, Captain Malan Perera.

Chanting of 'Jaya Pirith' at BMICH invokes blessings on nation
Chanting of 'Jaya Pirith' that got underway at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) on 26th January 2022 came to an end with the offering of Alms to the members of Maha Sangha this morning (27th January). The meritorious deeds commenced to invoke blessings on the country, its people, war veterans and with a view to dispersing the pandemic fear from the country.

Update to the news release ‘Navy seizes heroin valued at over Rs. 3300 million street value and 02 local fishing trawlers on high seas’ on 24th January 2022
In a successful operation carried out in international waters south of Sri Lanka, the Navy managed to seize a haul of heroin, with 11 suspects and 02 local fishing vessels on 17th and 22nd January 2022 and they were brought to the port of Colombo this morning (25th January). Defence Secretary, General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne and Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne were also present at the Colombo harbour to inspect the apprehended consignment of narcotics.

Navy seizes heroin valued at over Rs. 3300 million street value and 02 local fishing trawlers on high seas
A special operation conducted by the Navy in international waters south of Sri Lanka, led to intercept a local fishing trawler carrying over 330kg of heroin (including packages), with a gross street value of over Rs. 3300 million. The operation also made way to the apprehension of 11 local suspects and another local fishing vessel in connection to this illegal act. The two arrests were made on 17th and 22nd January 2022, as an extension of Navy’s anti-drug operations.

Defence Secretary and Commander of the Navy review construction sites at places of worship in Anuradhapura and Mihinthalaya
Defence Secretary, General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne and Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne on 23rd January 2022 visited construction sites at several places of worship in Anuradhapura and Mihinthalaya. Accordingly, the progress of ongoing construction projects, carried out by the Armed Forces, at the sacred city of Anuradhapura and Mihinthalaya fell under the supervision of them.

Chief of Naval Staff of Bangladesh meets Commander of the Navy
The Chief of Naval Staff of Bangladesh, Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal, who is currently on a four-day official visit to Sri Lanka, met with Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Navy Headquarters today (19th January 2022).
