The newly constructed upstairs of the wooden ‘Sambuddha Raja Mandapaya’ of Pepiliyana Sunethra Devi Pirivena was vested in Ven. Maha Sanga at the temple premises today (19th June 2022). The event held under the auspices of Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) was also attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne. Sri Lanka Navy contributed to this meritorious undertaking with its able manpower.

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne presided over the awarding of insignia to 03 officers and 19 sailors of the 29th Special Boat Squadron (SBS) intake at the SBS Headquarters in Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee today (05th June 2022).

The Commander in Chief of Armed Forces, His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today (19th May 2022) presided over the National War Heroes’ Day Commemoration 2022 held at the National War Heroes’ Monument in Battaramulla. The ceremony held in a dignified sequence was attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne.

Coinciding with the 13th Victory Day anniversary 74 Navy officers and 2010 sailors have been promoted / advanced to their next higher ranks / rates by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, with the approval of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency the President.

In a successful operation carried out in international waters south of Sri Lanka, the Navy managed to seize a haul of heroin with 07 foreign nationals on 05th May 2022. The apprehended suspects along with the stock of illegal drugs were brought to the port of Colombo this morning (09th May) by SLNS Sayurala. Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne was also present at the Colombo harbour to inspect the apprehended consignment of narcotics.

A successful operation led by Sri Lanka Navy in coordination with the Police Narcotics Bureau in international waters south of Sri Lanka, led to the seizure of about 240kg of narcotics suspected to be heroin and apprehension of 07 foreign nationals, on 05th May 2022.

A special operation carried out by the Navy in Saukkadu sea area in the dark hours on 03rd May 2022 led to the seizure of about 492kg of Kerala cannabis and apprehension of a suspect with a dinghy.

A special operation conducted by the Navy in coordination with the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, State Intelligence Service (SIS) and Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) in seas off Dodanduwa, Galle on the evening of 12th April 2022, led to the seizure of a local multi-day fishing vessel smuggling about 300kg of substance suspected to be heroin and about 25kg of drugs suspected to be crystal methamphetamine (ICE). The coordinated operation also made way to the apprehension of 11 suspects along with a dinghy, a cab and a three-wheeler in connection to the incident.

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne awarded scholarships to children of naval personnel, for their academic excellence at the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A/L) – 2020. The ceremony in this regard was held at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium, Navy Headquarters today (06th April 2022).

The official handing over of Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) equipment to the Information Fusion Centre (IFC - Colombo) established at Navy Headquarters was held with the distinguished presence of the Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka, HE Mizukoshi Hideaki and Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne today (25th March 2022).
