Commander of the Navy attends IMDEX Asia 2023 and IMSC in Singapore
The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera attended the IMDEX Asia 2023 - Asia Pacific's Leading Naval and Maritime Defence Event and International Maritime Security Conference (IMSC) held from 03rd to 05th May 2023 at the Changi Exhibition Centre, Singapore.
The 13th edition of IMDEX Asia hosted a large number of delegates from various countries and regions in the world. Meanwhile, the International Maritime Security Conference was also attended by Navy and Coast Guard Chiefs as well as maritime practitioners, academics and policy makers from different parts of the world.
Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera also took part in strategically important discussions involving the stakeholders to foster cooperation and shared understanding concerning maritime security in the Asia Pacific region.
Thus, he held bilateral discussions with Chiefs of Navies and maritime stakeholders in the Asian and Pacific region including; Navy International Programmes Office, Office of the Secretary of the Navy, Rear Admiral Anthony E. Tony Rossi, Commander of the Joint Agency Task Force Operation Sovereign Borders of Australia, Rear Admiral Justin Jones, Executive Director of Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against ships in Asia, Mr. Krishnaswamy Natarajan, Commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet (PACFLT), Admiral Samuel Paparo, Director, Chief of the Republic of Singapore Navy, Rear Admiral Sean Wat, Chief of the Royal New Zealand Navy, Rear Admiral David Proctor and Chief of the Royal Australian Navy, Vice Admiral Mark Hammond.
During these discussions, views were exchanged regarding mutually important issues related to maritime security, Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) and Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) improvements, development of skills and operational capabilities as well as sharing of information. Mementoes were also exchanged as tokens of goodwill and cooperation.
