Navy conducts Canoeing and Kayaking training programme at Diyawanna Lake

The Sri Lanka Navy conducted a special Canoeing and Kayaking training programme at Diyawanna Lake today (16th April 2023). The programme was held for the Defence Advisors / Attachés attached to the High Commissions and Embassies in Sri Lanka and the family members of those officers.

The programme was held following an idea mooted by the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, under his patronage. The aim of the training programme was to promote Canoeing and Kayaking as a water sports and it was participated by Defence Advisors / Attachés of India, China, France, U.S. and Russia and their family members.

On the sidelines, spectators also witnessed a Dragon Boat display at the Diyawanna Lake. The Kayaking equipment and lifesaving equipment for the event was provided by Off Grid LTD.

The President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs Mala Lamahewa, Chief of Staff of the Navy Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularatne, Deputy Chief of Staff and Director General Operations Rear Admiral Pradeep Rathnayake, Commander Western Naval Area Rear Admiral Suresh De Silva and senior officers from the Navy Headquarters and Western Naval Command were present on this occasion. Commander of the Navy also presented mementoes on completion of the event.
